This book presents the results of original researches on Indigenous visual cultures of the American continent, covering a considerably long timeframe – from antiquity to the present.
Through analyses of specific cases, different theoretical and methodological approaches are promoted with regards to the study of different productions and practices in the field of visuality. The intention of this collection of essays is to advance the disciplinary intersection of knowledge and questions about the specificities of Indigenous visuality in the Americas in its historical dimension, and its effects on the generation of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences beyond this area.
Este libro presenta los resultados de las investigaciones originales sobre las culturas visuales indígenas del continente americano, abarcando el periodo desde la antigüedad hasta la actualidad. A través de análisis de los casos puntuales se promueven los diferentes enfoques teóricos y metodológicos en torno al estudio de diversas producciones y prácticas en el campo de la visualidad. La intención de esta colección de ensayos es impulsar el encuentro de saberes y cuestionamientos sobre las especificidades de lo visual indígena en las Américas en su dimensión histórica y sus efectos en la generación del conocimiento en las disciplinas humanísticas y sociales más allá de esta área.

Sanja Savkic is associate researcher of the international research group "Bilderfahrzeuge: Aby Warburg's Legacy and the Future of Iconology" (Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut & Institut für Kunst- und Bildgeschichte, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin).
Hannay Baader is Director of the Academic Program Art Histories and Aesthetic Practices at the Forum Transregionale Studien, Berlin and Senior Research Scholar at KHI Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut.

Die Beiträge zu Beispielen in Nord- wie Lateinamerika sind durch die Sprachen Englisch und Spanisch den Interessenten gut zugänglich und ergeben gewiss zusätzliche Erkenntnisse auch bei persönlichen Erfahrungen mit dem künstlerischen Schaffen der Indigenen des Doppelkontinents.
